Flood in China

Storms in southern China have caused severe floods and killed 22 people after days of heavy rain.

It is estimated that 200,000 people in eight provinces - Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Zhejiang and Anhui - have been evacuated.

In Jiangxi Province the heavy rain caused a 100-metre wide breach to form in a dyke at Guxiandu, which flooded the nearby farmland and forced over three thousand people to evacuate.

The torrential rain also caused the water levels in rivers to rise, which has resulted in further flooding across the affected provinces. Thousands of homes have been damaged and crops have been flooded.
