Flood in Bangladesh
Cyclone Mora struck the eastern coast of Bangladesh on 30 May. The Category 1 hurricane brought powerful winds and torrential rain and left nine people dead. Thousands of homes were damaged.
The storm formed in the Bay of Bengal following a weather system that brought devastating floods to Sri Lanka. The coastal areas of Bangladesh were put on the highest alert in advance of the storm's arrival and over a million people were evacuated before Mora made landfall. 500 cyclone shelters housed many of those left displaced by the storm.
Mora made landfall in Chittagong district, and the port of Cox's Bazaar was badly affected by the storm. Mora moved inland bringing further rain until it weakened and dissipated on 1 June.
