Flood in Russia
A state of emergency has been declared due to rapid snow melting causing spring floods in Russia's southern Orenburg region. As of 04 April, 543 homes and 2,274 private properties across 15 towns, including Krasnokholm and Sorochinsk, have been affected by flooding. A total of 1,473 individuals, including 381 children, have been evacuated.
The Governor has stressed the need for this measure to prevent adverse outcomes and mitigate potential damage to residents and infrastructure. Local officials are on standby, preparing reserves of soil and other materials to reinforce roads and dams.
Urgent plans are in place to make all resources available for emergency rescue operations and pre-emptive evacuation from high-risk areas. Efforts are being made to ensure adequate supplies of fuel, food, and essential items, safeguard residents' personal property, and maintain public order throughout the region. Temporary shelters are operational, providing essential provisions such as food, water, medical assistance and medications.
