Flood in Russian Federation
Torrential rain has caused flooding in Stavropol Krai, Russia. A state of emergency has been declared in the region, where more than 1000 homes have been flooded and over 3000 people evacuated.
At least six villages and towns in the area are affected, including the regional capital city of Stavropol. Emergency workers are conducting rescue operations to evacuate people trapped by the flood waters and are providing relief and emergency supplies for the victims.
In addition to the flash floods, rivers in the area have been overflowing, and the water level on the Kuma River - which runs through the Stavropol territory - has reached 6.8 metres. Dams are also at risk, with water levels rising.
