Description of the Event

Mount Sinabung erupted on the island of Sumatra, in Indonesia, on 03 November 2013. It was the third eruption in three months and though no one has been killed an evacuation has been ordered as a precaution, due to concerns over further volcanic activity and potential landslides.

The recent activity began in August, and almost 18,000 people were evacuated when the volcano erupted in September.

An ash plume 7 km high was measured on Sunday and 1500 people have been evacuated in four villages near the volcano's summit. More people are expected to evacuate and an alert has been issued for the volcano while the situation is being assessed.
