Several earthquakes have impacted the western part of the Solomon Islands (including one with a 7.2 magnitude) on 4 January with the epicentre near the islands of Tetepare and Rendova, 300 kilometres north-west of Honiara, causing landslides and a small tsunami, with villages being inundated with sea water to over two metres. About 500 houses have been damaged or destroyed, and many people have been displaced.
