CBERS Satellite
CBERS-3 Satellite

The CBERS Program was born from a partnership between Brazil and China in the space technical scientific segment. Consequently, Brazil joined a select group of countries with remote sensing technology.

Thus, Brazil has obtained a powerful tool to monitor its huge territory by its own remote sensing satellites, looking forward to consolidate an important autonomy in this segment.

CBERS Program, in a first moment, considered two remote sensing satellites only, namely CBERS-1 and -2. The success of both launches, by the Chinese Long March 4B, and the perfect behavior of CBERS-1 and CBERS-2 had immediate effects. Indeed, both governments decided to expand the cooperation and include new satellites of the same class, CBERS-2B and CBERS-3 and 4, as a second stage of Sino Brazilian cooperation.

The family of remote sensing satellites CBERS brought to Brazil significant scientific advances. This significance is attested by the over 115000 users from more than 2500 organizations registered as active CBERS users, also by the 950000 CBERS images, distributed at the approximate rate of 500 every day.

Its images are used in important areas, as deforestation and fire control in the Amazon Region, water resources monitoring, urban growth, soil occupation, education and several other applications.

It is also fundamental for large national and strategic projects, lake PRODES - Amazon deforestation real time evaluation and monitoring of sugar-cane areas (CANASAT), among others.
