Description of Event
Heavily damaged following cyclone Kyrill, the container ship MSC Napoli was towed and deliberately run aground in Lyme Bay. It was carrying some 1700 tonnes of insecticides and chemicals in 2394 containers of which about 200 were lost at sea. It also leaked its fuel, which spread out over the English Channel and about 8 km of the English coast.
