An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 struck on the India-Pakistan border in the Kashmir region at 03:50:38 UTC (8:50:38 local time). The epicentre was located about 95 kilometres to the northeast of Islamabad. Shocks were felt over a radius of some 300-400 kilometers in northwest India, northern Pakistan and Afghanistan.
On 21st October, Pakistani authorities reported casualties at some 49,700 dead and over 74,000 injured. The UN estimated 1 million people have been left homeless.
